Lacombe Alberta for lunch

Time to fly again and so I decided to go north to Lacombe for a lunch at Boston Pizza.  I left at 1100 am and after a 55 minutes flight in beautiful conditions arrived.  The restaurant is only a 12 minute walk from the small town single runway airport.  Runway is 16-34, 3000 feet long, wind was light out of the West and elevation of the airport is 2780 feet.  I really enjoy the good visibility out of the Quickie Q2 canopy, looking down is excellent and forward visibility is also good with a reasonable amount of forward terrain showing.  Trim control is working fabulous with the T-tail for pitch and the roll control knob on the stick.  As I fly along as long as the air is stable, the plane will fly hands off.      After many hours of keeping my eyes glued to the gauges I now finally get to take in the view of a lifetime in a much more relaxed state.

Local flight NW to Sundre Alberta area

On a beautiful evening I got out for a short flight with my friend Joel in in his Cozy Mk 4.  The objective of this short flight was to set up and flight test operation of 3 new Hero cameras.  Joel mounted 2 on his Cozy and I mounted one inside my passenger seat facing forward.  Joel mounted one inside his cockpit facing forward and a second under his right wing facing 45 degrees to his aft  right side.  All went really well and our videos turned out good.  Joel shot video of me as he followed in behind me and then he passed and I was able to get some shots of him pulling ahead.  He passed on my left and got shots of me trailing on his right.

I will add a few snap shots later, the videos are a bit awkward for me to load up.  My Q2 is running fabulous, I am very pleased with it after all of the work I completed to re-build it.  Temperatures and pressures are all staying within their normal ranges.  Total flight time for this video test flight was only 1 hour but very worth while.

Camrose Alberta Annual Fly in Breakfast

This fly in event is an annual gathering put on by the town of Camrose Alberta.  They put on a fabulous breakfast spread which attracts pilots from British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Alberta.  The fly in event is so popular that they had aprox. 115 registered aircraft arrivals this month.  They appear to get half the town out for this as was noted by the long line ups for a bite to eat.  Weather was the best that it could be for the event and the flying conditions were ideal.  Daytime temp was 20c, flew up at 5500 and back at 6500, ground speed was 125 mph in mostly smooth air.  Was nice to see some friends I have not seen in a while and the canard aircraft attracted quite the interest.

Organizers take a photo of planes as they land for the annual breakfast.

The organizers were kind enough to put our three canard aircraft near front-centre for everyone to see and they got a lot of looks.
My friend Joel flew his Cozy Mk4 with our group of three aircraft out of Springbank Alberta.
A local friend Matt who is a Q1 owner just bought this Longez and flew up with us.
A friend from Three Hills Alberta just finished his RV8 and joined in.
